Bethan Laura Wood is a designer who likes to play with concepts, ones like this: sometimes when you use something, you make it better.

Say hello to Stain, a fantastic cup and saucer set made by Bethan.

Bethan’s shop isn’t open yet, but you can contact her if you’re interested in making a purchase. How wonderful would a set of these be?

I love these!
This is such a brilliant idea– and so simple! some of the best ones are.
How thought provoking! Sometimes when you use something, you make it better- I like this idea a lot and it rings true for certain things for sure. I used to buy lots and lots of things because they were “pretty” but I would never use them, because I didn’t want to “ruin” them. After I read the Happiness Project (yes, STILL going on major about this book) Gretchen brought up a great point – spend out. What good was something if it wasn’t being used? I held this philosophy for good design – to me good design is functional design, I especially sharpened this perspective after living in tiny space in nyc. So here I am with this functional design philosophy but I had SO many things I wasn’t touching solely for “beauty” purposes. Now, I get my fix online looking at beautiful images. I tended to do this with clothes too – new ones, I would never wear because I wanted them to ALWAYS be new. Anyways, I’m going way off track here…woops.
I love Bethan Laura Wood’s work, some interesting ideas. I want that MUG SO BAD. How cool is that?!
We’re so alike it’s crazy. I’ve been the same way about things — some I rarely use for fear of ruining them, I have shoes I’ve hardly worn. But living in a small space definitely forces you to change your perspective on things.
And I just bought the Happiness Project yesterday, so soon I’ll be able to join you on going on about this book.
How cool are they? And they’re wide too…big enough to hold lots of marshmallows!
That’s so neat! It’s like personalizing your own flatware. They’d be completely unique to you based on your drinking/eating habits.
What a brilliant idea! I absolutely love the one with the circles. I think I might have to contact her to see what her prices are like.
*wow* how beautiful. i love the progression of each tea set the patterns and delicacy of each is so beautiful. i may just have to contact her before her site is up.
p.s. you’re one lucky lady if you’re “almost” able to wear pretty dresses. i envy you as i sit here in w/ a warm cup of coffee and avoiding the 13degree weather outside!
Oh I’m SO happy to hear about your purchase of the book, I am sure you will devour it and love it:)
those are gorgeous!
now i’m interested in the happiness project…
I love these, Brandi! I echo your thoughts about not using or wearing things for fear of ruining them! I have a problem with that with my dresses. Carpe Diem. =)
