Science and Culture (a weekend adventure)

So, the AAAS (that is, the American Association for the Advancement of Science) is in town this weekend, having their annual conference down at the San Diego Convention Center. This year’s theme is “Bridging Science and Society”, and I have to admit, I’m excited about the programs I’ll be attending. I’ve been considering taking this Philosophy of Science degree I’ll be getting someday and working in science policy or with an organization that promotes science education.

Hello, my name is Brandi and I’m a geek. (Still love that phrase, “geek chic”.)

Did I ever tell you how M. and I met? In astrophysics class. A mutual friend who was also in the class introduced us.  And you know what, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect way for me to meet him.

Have a very lovely weekend, everyone. Do you have some special plans?   I secretly wish I knew how to sew so I could work on some pretty dresses like those Elizabeth is creating.

My husband is a total nerd- graduated in physics and is working as a chemist while going to school to become a patent lawyer. It’s all part of his charm :)

Yeah for science nerds! My husband I met at a science university in our biochem class.
Tomorrow I am going antique shopping with a friend and we are going to terrain, can’t wait!

I can’t sew to save my life, but I would love some of Elizabeth’s gorgeous dresses!

I love the “Actually is IS rocket science” print. Genius!

The sun is shining and we’ve got lots of lovely little plans for our weekend, including breakfast out. I love going out for breakfast! At home it’s usually cereal, or toast and tea. But at a restaurant? Endless (and delicious) possibilities!

    Happy Weekend to you, Brandi.

I didn’t know that was happening and I live in San Diego. Nothing exciting around here this weekend and I’m looking forward to it.

I love that you’re so cerebral! Hello Astrophysics? Yikes. I heard about that convention on NPR. It did sound interesting. Have fun and have a great weekend Brandi!

L — Thank you! I’m drinking lots of orange juice to fight off whatever this sickness is.

DancingBranflake — Yay for physics nerds!

stephanie — Knowing you, martial arts class is perfect. So cute!

    Lauren — Will do!

    Kristin — I’m so glad you’re back.

Brandeye — Biochem, really? My day just gets cooler.

Erin — Breakfast out sounds like a great idea. I might have to do the same.

Rachel — It’s so easy to miss out on things. I don’t feel like San Diego has any real way of announcing events.

Jayni — I love the sign too. Makes me laugh every time.

Haydee — I just adore that you used “cerebral”. I’m imagining my head getting bigger and bigger (thank goodness that’s not actually happening).

I could teach you how to sew over gchat! It would be hilarious, but doable.

Plans for this weekend: the Eiffel Tower. In embroidery floss :)
