Entries from 31 May 2010

I’m slowly recovering from a plane trip and three days of running around to different events: a wedding, a family barbecue, a friend’s barbecue… My tummy wasn’t happy with what I ate. Luckily, today is a good recovery day. So that’s what I’m doing: trying to catch up and get back on track. Maybe eat some perfect NJ strawberries while I’m at it.

Doesn’t this vintage berry picking basket from Lucky Little Dot make you want to find a pick-your-own farm near you? I’m tempted.

Happy Monday! I’ll be back tomorrow with more goodies.

Victoria at sfgirlbybay comes up with really fantastic ideas. The latest is Pin-It-Forward, a blog project using the new Pinterest software (which, in case you haven’t tried it, is amazing). I’m part of a group that started with the lovely Melissa of Melissa loves on Monday.  Yesterday, Jess of Sweet Eventide shared her board with the world and introduced me (thanks again, Jess!).

Here’s my complete Pin-It-Forward board (and my other boards as well).

Make sure you head over to Jessica’s blog, Jessica Torres Photography, for her Pin-it-Forward post on Monday!  And for more great boards and posts, check out the complete list.

Lauren Moffatt‘s Spring 2010 collection captured my heart in two ways. The clothing is obvious gorgeous, but I’m particularly digging the dress names, like Brunching with Mother in Boston,

Chatting it Up in Chattingham,

Caught in a Blustery Breeze in Belize,

and Tunnocks and Tea Cakes.

Anyone else suddenly feel the urge to travel to an exotic location and sample some of the local fare?

They were on a brief hiatus, but the brilliant minds behind Sunday Suppers are back in action again.

I’m hoping to have the chance to get to one of their classes while I’m home in NJ this summer.  But honestly, I’d love to do something like this myself — host little dinner parties/cooking classes, meet new people, make an awesome meal, and laugh a lot.

Tomorrow, I fly home. Even though I’ll only be there for less than two weeks, but it means summer is even closer. Some day (maybe soon) I’ll be having cute summer parties, and when I do, I’ll be picking up some cute supplies from Miss Pickles Press, like these s’mores tags.

And probably these cutlery bags too for a barbecue.

And when it’s time to jam, maybe pick up some cute personalized tags or labels for the jars.

Don’t you love party favors that you can really use?

Last week, I caught a peek of Ikea’s upcoming catalog on a lovely being. Well, I wandered over to the site of the stylist for the shoot, Lo Bjurulf, and I couldn’t help but share some of the photos I found.

So, what do you think? Stunning, no?  It’s a whole new day for Ikea.

…tea parties, the ladies at joielala photography tempted their readers with this photo from their shoot over the weekend.

I can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Note: Apologies, but so many of my posts this week seem to revolve around food, food packaging, or tablescapes. If you can’t tell I’m itching to have a summer tea party or open a bakery already, you’ll have no doubts by the end of the week.

Sir Ken Robinson’s latest TED talk is another amazing and inspirational piece about the need for an education revolution. (We shouldn’t forget about Jamie Oliver‘s food revolution either.)

“If you’re doing something you love, an hour feels like five minutes. If you’re doing something that doesn’t resonate with your spirit, five minutes feels like an hour.” What do you love to do?

This weekend I discovered a little French cafe in the downtown area of San Diego named Cafe Chloe. They do something special on afternoons: an urban tea. One glorious pot of gourmet tea and a double tiered silver tea tray with tea sandwiches, pastries, cakes, and cookies.

I suddenly had a momentary dream of abandoning my graduate school work, opening that little bakery/general store I like to talk about, and hosting my own weekday urban teas, creating a little place to escape and relax in the middle of the afternoon. I’ve already started to collect some inspiration.

So, likely there won’t be as much green beyond the patio if it’s an urban tea, but this is precisely the feeling I would go for.

Hope you’ll take some time this afternoon to escape for a moment. A good way to start the week, don’t you agree?

Find me a sun-drenched field, please.

It’s supposed to be spring, but here in San Diego, it’s still not quite warm enough to be considered just-t-shirt-wearing weather (yet).

What are your plans for the weekend? Is it warm where you are? I’m heading out to dinner at an amazing restaurant tonight, then I have a little potluck scheduled with some awesome ladies from school on Saturday (we’re all cooks or bakers in our spare time — it’s going to be so delicious!).

Have a charming weekend!
