Excuse me for a moment while I indulge in the perfect summertime treat: s’mores. Lillian posted photos of a s’mores kit from a campground wedding last week.

This week, Erin tantalized with photos (snapped by the fantastic Leila) of a DIY S’more bar she designed.

Anyone else thinking summer campground fire suddenly?

Other prettiness:

Gasp at these amazing book carvings at Happiness Is

Make a popsicle this weekend with a recipe from Molly of Orangette

Have some clip art fun with freebies from pugly pixel

I’m off to prepare for a brunch I’m co-hosting in NYC this weekend. Tomorrow, I’ll be getting my bake on.  Have a delicious weekend — maybe with some s’mores, yes?

It never quite feels like summer to me unless I’m attending barbecues on regular occasions. M and I were at one last weekend, but the heat drove us indoors in the middle of the afternoon. I’m longing for a nighttime outdoor party, one where you can still see the smoke from the grill rising up into the air at ten o’clock, where people sit surrounded by lanterns (some of which promise to shoo those pesky mosquitoes away), where the plates of food never quite get empty.

Have you been to any good outdoor parties this summer?

I’m a bit taken with all the prettiness from Olive Manna: simple colors, lots of ribbon, bunting galore.

Do you ever find yourself wishing that some lovely online store had an actual store you could wander about in?

I have a confession: I’m not that big on fashion trends. I like what I like, I buy what fits and looks good on me, but whether kitten heels are or aren’t in this season, that I don’t concern myself with too much. But sometimes, I see a designer’s collection and positively swoon over it. Case in point: Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2009 Ready to Wear collection.

If only the pieces would magically appear in my closet, I know what I’d be wearing this week.

When I moved to San Diego last September, I picked up some jars to store my baking supplies. I then had the cutest idea: I’d also buy some chalkboard paint and paint a little region on each jar so I could write what was inside of each. On the to-do list the task went. And stayed. School started, I got busy, and I eventually forgot about my little project. Until today.

Chalkboard stickers.

Brilliant, no? And so my project is off the to-do list. Finally.

“I need to make some pasta.” That was my very first thought.

I stumbled across Ditte Isager’s beautiful food photography in Food & Wine magazine last month and since then have been wandering around Ditte’s portfolio. I was captivated (and hungry). If I knew how to work a camera better, I might feel the urge to become a food photographer, to travel the world and taste local cuisines. In the meantime, I can daydream…

…about walkways through old cities and finely aged cheeses (mozzarella di bufala remains my favorite, although brie with fig jam is gaining favor),

about scenic overlooks and long winding lunches that leave you so full you need an afternoon nap,

about gathering food straight from the fields and taking it straight to the table, mixing it with some favorite nuts or dried fruit,

about discovering places so stunning you become afraid your heart might fall out of your chest.

Monday is a perfect time to daydream a bit, especially with that long week ahead…

Last weekend, I made my way to Governor’s Island for the Jazz Age Lawn Festival and thought I’d share some photos I took. The band was fantastic, the weather hot, and the people stylish.

A HUGE thank you to Amy from Marginalia by Amy for the I Love Your Blog award. I’m supposed to post a list of ten things that make me happy, but I’m going to keep it short with three really good ones: (1) You (Yes, you who are reading this. You’re awesome — have I told you that today yet?), (2) Pasta (I wish I didn’t love it so much but I do), (3) Making the whole house smell like a funnel cake while trying to fry sweet potato doughnuts (They were delicious, but didn’t quite taste as sweet potatoey as I would have liked).

There’s a Herriot-Grace shop update today at 5pm est. I know I’ll be there swooning over the beautifully carved wood pieces. (I’m saving for a cake stand.) Get a sneak peak here.

Check out this awesome — and free — clipart kit from Ana of Live & Enliven.

I just love these bicycle photos. What would you put in your basket?

This sweet video will have you daydreaming a bit.

I think Elizabeth‘s new Turkish Delight pillow cover is wonderful. If only I could be eating Turkish Delight while lounging on it.

I’d also love to pack up the back of this car with a picnic basket full of food and a blanket. Whatever your plans are for the weekend, I hope you have a wonderful one!

This house is the kind you would find in an old story about the area. The kind that crawls into your imagination and lingers there, only to be recalled years later when you’re talking with your friends about those beautiful, intriguing, mysterious, aloof old homes. The house has a history, where large parties have lasted until the next morning and generations of the same family have run up and down the hallways.

You imagine it, in the first light of day, and see yourself sitting on its balcony, overlooking the ocean, drinking tea. You also imagine it in a thunderstorm, the fierce variety that only arrive in the autumn.

The rooms tells stories, and one you find has beautifully painted walls. (The owner of the house, unsurprisingly, is an artist. Artists have the right sort of imagination to breathe life into old homes like this one.)

The bathroom — besides the crumbling paint — is a flawless shade of blue. Bubble baths would be the perfect combination of luxurious and quaint.

And when you step into the sun room, you feel like you could be in a Jane Austen novel. I shouldn’t even mention all the exciting things in the attic and upstairs rooms. The collected family history of 200 years, 200 years of stories and treasures. Don’t you want to go for a visit?

Lili has a way when it comes to photography. Her photos make me hungry. This is a talent. (Trust me.) I secretly want to encourage her to be a restaurant photographer. Mostly because she takes gorgeous photos of restaurants, but partly because I love daydreaming about going to those restaurants.

She also has a way of making me miss New York City so. She captures that New York City light, that light that streaks in through windows or tree branches and bathes things.

Beyond photography, she’s also a seriously lovely person — we met on Tuesday for a light fare at the Village Tart and had such a pleasant time. Check out her photos for sale here and her wonderful blog here (there’s a discount code in this post if you want to buy a photograph or two or more).

As if I didn’t already need to take a trip to Vancouver, the Old Faithful Shop only adds to my reasons to visit that northern city.

First, let’s talk towels. And not just any towels. The most perfectly blue towels.

Then, the pup.

And the pup again.

Because you know a shop is cool when its owner keeps his dog around. That just makes the place feel more like home, doesn’t it?
