Happy New Years Eve, all!

The thing I realized about New Years (and life) some time ago is that it doesn’t matter where you are, only who you’re with. So whether you’re out celebrating and are dressed to the 9′s, or have decided to spend the evening in, enjoy yourself and treasure the people you’re with.

This new year is going to be a hard one for me for a number of reasons. A lot has happened recently, a lot is still going to happen. As always, I will try to handle it all with grace and an open heart. I can’t thank you all enough for your kind words and support this year; you have all enriched my life with your friendships so much.

May this new year bring many blessings your way. Remember to sparkle.

What little thing will you do to change the world today?

I’ve been having fun looking at all the beautiful props I could use for food shoots…if I lived in Australia. Over the summer, I began a list of plates, bowls, platters, etc. I wanted to own so I could start doing really professional-looking photo shoots with the food I make. Alas, such items have not yet materialized, thanks to my current budget. I did, however, recently come across the above photo from prop.d, a prop rental company near Melbourne, and I realized that when the time is right, I don’t have to buy all the pieces I want to use, I could just rent them.

In fact, any party I can dream of, I could find a prop rental company in that area to help make my vision reality. With a few tweaks, this English cricket party could easily become a scene from Alice in Wonderland.

And even though I think this beach scene requires no alteration, I could move it to my backyard if there’s not a beach nearby.

(Prop rental companies can also be really fantastic resources if you’re planning a wedding or other large event.)

Andalucia is definitely on my list of places to visit someday. Actually, Spain in general is. When I was younger, I used to imagine hiking the Road to Santiago, beginning in France and wandering along the beautiful French and Spain countryside, along one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in the world.

When I first came across these beautiful posters, it made me think about what I want to collect as I traveled to different areas. A friend once mentioned that she collects books from the places she goes. Should I perhaps do the same? Or collect posters?

What do you bring home from your adventures and wanderings elsewhere?

I really may need to visit several of these places so I can own these posters and really own them.

My two favorite gifts this year both came from my boyfriend. The first was this amazingly gorgeous necklace from Babette for my birthday.

And for Christmas, he got me the coolest book ever: Harold McGee’s On Food and Cooking. It’s all about the science and chemistry behind cooking. For me, that’s like getting a book with pictures of desserts.

(He does, however, still owe me a card. And I’m still the luckiest girl around.)

Happy Christmas (Eve), friends! I know you may not all celebrate this holiday, but regardless, make sure to take some time this weekend to celebrate all the love in your life.

See you bright and early Monday morning!

The only thing I really dislike about flying home to the East Coast for the holidays is leaving my cats behind in San Diego. Breaks my heart. I grew up with a great dislike for cats, but these three won me over. Especially the fat orange one (he snuggles up with me every night and really just wants belly rubs out of life). I can’t wait for the time when I only have to leave them for a day or so at the most.

While I was exploring the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco, I stumbled upon a little shop belonging to local designer Sunhee Moon. I only wish I could find one of these outfits underneath my Christmas tree — they’d be perfect for those family dinners I have on Saturday.

I probably should figure that out. Do you have your outfit planned for Christmas already?

Today is my birthday.

A year ago I made a list of 30 things to do in 365 days. Half way through that time, I abandoned it.

I realized it’s not about making lists and doing big things. It’s all about those little moments, and the journey you’re constantly writing for yourself.

Here’s to that journey.

A little bird (in the form of a twitter message) brought me some good news last week: I’ve been named one of the top 5 San Diego Designer Blogs. The mention will be in the January Issue of San Diego Magazine, and I have to tell you I’m still giddy with excitement. Especially given that I’m included with some dear friends — Heather of La Feem and Julia of San Diego Songbirds — Alexis of Fern and Feather (a new friend) and Mrs. Lilien, a blogger I really admire.

Wild, no?

A huge thank you to San Diego Magazine!
