I always go into my weekend with so many ideas and plans, but I can’t figure out where all the time goes. Do you feel like that?

I did, of course, make lemon bars, attend a fire party, shop at farmer’s markets, buy myself flowers, have brunch with friends, sleep in freshly-laundered sheets, have tea and scones with my friend Dyan, and made orange-lemon ricotta pancakes for brunch with friends (including the lovely Julia — we marvel how our lives are connected in strange ways). I wrote. I was inspired. I listened to the rain pound hard on the roof and walkway as I slept at night.

Now? We get another new week, more time to accomplish brilliant things, to give life to our ideas.

Do you have your notebook ready?

Are you imagining quiet summer beaches now too?

My weekend will be filled with curls (and maybe some lip gloss)…

shots of whiskey (maybe some mischief too — whiskey and mischief always leave a good party together)…

and brunches with good friends.

Maybe I’ll even by myself some flowers at the farmer’s market, just because I deserve flowers.  You deserve flowers too.

What will you be filling your weekend with?

Hats have always been the finishing touch to an outfit that I’ve never been able to master, but I’m willing to take a chance with one of these cute ones from Elk.

What do you think?

Simple jewelry is definitely my style, but I particularly like when it comes with a twist, like these teardropraindrop-shaped bracelets from Fay Andrada.

Update: I liked Angelina’s suggestion below of calling this shape raindrop rather than teardrop, so I’ve changed it. I’ve always wanted to wear the rain.

I recently decided I didn’t have a proper 30th birthday party. While I had a lovely time at lunch with the gorgeous Melissa, the evening wasn’t filled with the birthday excitement I had hoped it would be. I’ve been considering throwing myself several un-birthday parties to make up for it.

And then I saw these pieces from Twigs & Honey.

Do you think there would be anything wrong with throwing some un-weddings one day as well? How I’d love to wear each of these!

And the more I look at them, the more I agree with Raleigh: some of these should absolutely be for everyday adornment. Especially this last piece.

People would gasp as they passed you on the street.

I spend a lot of time adding kitchens to my Pinterest board. It’s slowly bordering on obsessive; the compulsive part hasn’t kicked in yet, but I worry that’s only a matter of time. What I’m most fascinated by is how there is no single style that draws me in: from an industrial kitchen with lots of metal to one more rustic to a kitchen that’s adaptable to changing situations, I love them all.

The only real requirement I have is that a kitchen is comfortable for two. There’s nothing I love more than being in the kitchen with another person. Somehow in those moments  — the ones where I’m clearing things up and a friend is washing dishes after a long dinner — I feel more at home than at any other time.

Do you daydream about kitchens at all, or is it another room in the house that strikes your fancy?

There’s nothing like some good inspirational phrases for your wall. The only thing I’d change is the text of the last one.

I’d want it to say “Be the miracle.”

I think we all have that power inside.

I think every woman should get to wear a Marchesa dress at some point in her life. There’s a story in every piece: an Egyptian queen,

a mysterious enchantress, or Red Riding Hood after battle with the wolf…

Don’t you feel that other-worldly magic in these dresses?

As for where to wear them, don’t worry: we’ll figure that out. If there’s something I’m good at, it’s dreaming up things.

General Rule for a Long Weekend: Do everything slowly. Time will pass as it must, but indulge in your activities.

Hide your to-do list for a day or two. Yes, you could be “catching up” and “getting things done” but you need this time to play.

Our best ideas and our greatest dreams take form when we’re not searching for them. They’ll find us in a general store or a farmer’s market or over dinner with friends. One found Kim and me this weekend in rainy Los Angeles during a conversation over a pot of tea and a scone with jam and clotted cream.

Life is in the pauses of the music as much as in the notes.

Do you have the day off? What are you up to?

(Even if you don’t have the day off, look for a little bit of time to slow down.)
