Candy Chang is the brilliant artist behind the Before I Die art piece. I spent some time on her website recently and was absolutely amazed by all of the art pieces she’s done. But one in particular — Sidewalk Psychiatry — really reminded me of my time walking around New York City.

Not because there were things written on the sidewalks (well, sometimes there were), but because I was always deep in thought or music or imagination as I walked.

You know, maybe little reminders like these wouldn’t be so bad for us all.
(Is it just me, or does anyone else want to be a street artist when you see pieces like Candy’s?)

just beautiful, and what a neat concept. i watched a documentary recently about street art, called “exit through the gift shop.” there is truly an artistic concept around these designs. have a beautiful thursday, sweet friend.
it always makes me wish i could happen upon some fun street art such as this so i can take a picture of it myself! that’s my fave!

That is so cool! I’d love to find something like that on the street.
Hahaha, this is awesome. How creative and fun!
Oh I love this! There is a Charleston photo blog that often includes sidewalk graffiti and it always makes me smile. Some of it is silly but every so often it is inspirational. I miss it.

I’m always fascinated by these kinds of ideas. There is definitely not enough accessible art like this around. Hope you have a lovely thursday, brandi!
Oh man, I hope I come across one that tells me not to give up. I have two more weeks of school and it’s burning me out.
Brilliant!
These are great! I am looking for some inspiration for an art project I’m doing and these are right up my alley! Thanks for sharing!
these are so cool! now i’m going to keep my eyes peeled when walking anywhere…
Neat concept.
There’s a woman in San Francisco – who wears airy floaty bright colors – who writes uplifting messages on the sidewalk in South-of-Market. Messages like ‘someone out there loves you’, etc. These reminded of that
ohhh how i love this! would love to see those sayings on my walks around different cities. so far i’ve seen “now means now” and “good time all the time”
that is one creative work – to insert thoughts in to strangers minds. nice share!
Thank you Brandi for this wonderful find–her work is great and does remind me so much of my 5 years living in NYC–why is it that you always look down at the ground so much there, so much more than here in California? And the ground in NYC is interesting! Or can be, even the gutters and the dirty streets–I guess you’re right, there’s always so much going on in one’s head there.

These are awesome little reminders. “Do you think that went well?” awesome!
Oh yes, I’ve always wanted to be a street artist. Never thought I could pull it off, but I love how she gets you to think!
P.S. Bummer you don’t like beer! But don’t worry, I’ll find us a lovely spot

these are awesome. i remember seeing a lot of street art in chicago that made me think…it’d be neat if she set up a time lapse cam to capture people’s reactions while they read them.
What a beautiful and artistic way to always be reminded to be present, think deeply, and spread the love! Thanks for the introduction to this amazing artist. I am always incredibly inspired by people who are leaving their “footprints.” Hope you are having a lovely week! xo Samantha
I think if I came upon this on the street I would almost be caught off guard. What a great concept:)
It would be especially cool if you thought that and then you saw it. I would be totally tripped out! street artistry is the best!
Ahhhh, I love these!
I would be so smitten to stumble upon these! What a great idea.
straight to the point – got to love that! xxx
OOO, I really love this!
what a creative concept! i would love to see one of these while walking – its like a spontaneous secret message!
That is such a great idea, I just love street art! Have you seen the blog ‘Colour me Katie’? She does lots of wonderful stuff like this too. Also I read your post below, I think you took something so beautiful and sweet out of the whole experience
xoxo
I think it would be so cool to have those reminders
I know I could definitely use some sidewalk psychiatry sometimes…

i love this concept – have always liked graffiti that made me think – and i like what she’s chosen to say.
LOVE this! the Before I Die installation is absolutely incredible.. i’ve so wanted to spread beautiful thoughts (in a slightly mischievious way) for strangers.
It would be so fun to happen upon one of these!
So cool! I’ve spent a bit of time on her website as well, but I’d not seen this project yet. Talk about getting “a sign”.
i AM BUYING CHALK TOMORROW… and I will put hearts and happy faces in front of my house (no sidewalks)…lots of doggie walkers will pass by….
Love these!

her work really hit a nerve
Wow, I really love this. Imagine how powerful it would be to run across one of these at just the right moment…
