The drawings and writings of Sara Midda in her sketchbook South of France have me seriously pining for a journey to the region.

When asked by New York Times writer Suzanne Slesin where she gets inspiraiton for her art, Sara said: “One thing sparks off another. ‘Mostly I absorb what’s around, mostly everyday things…going to a market or a stationery shop, or just sitting in a garden. You can get ideas from anything.”

I wouldn’t mind some ideas seeping into my mind while sitting in a French garden. Not at all.

i have always wanted to carry around a notebook to doodle in, or write poetry or something beautiful that came to mind, but the more i thought about it the more of a burden it became because i am not a poet or much of an artist. i wish i were!

Ah yes, I have found myself pining not only for travel and gardens, but a great new notebook/sketchbook myself this week. I hope you find a local rose garden that will suffice for your mind wandering and musings!

Is this the one we saw at the card store in Pittsburgh? I seem to remember finding it there… anywho, I love it either way! Such a darling little book!

I really don’t think I’d mind, either! These are quite lovely!
I am soooo dreaming of the South of France, need to get there!! xo
Market, stationery shop, garden: three of my most favorite places! I am so inspired by creatives who find inspiration in their everyday surroundings. It really is everywhere: we just have to remember to keep our eyes open.
i would not mind it so much, either
now i’m off to find something similar in my city.
Alan’s sister has a summer house in the south of France. I am definitely going to get myself over there one summer! In the meantime, if you ever decide to go over, she rents it out…
I absolutely love sketches/illustrations like these… and I agree that ideas can come from anything or anywhere. It just takes the right eye to see inspiration.
Ooh, aren’t these just lovely. I say we all head on down to the south of France. Wouldn’t that be wonderful.
Oh. my. god. I LOVE these. They’d be perfect for my room! I am going to look into this…
And now I have yet another reason to want to visit France. I love that approach to creativity, too, as a natural flow, stream of consciousness, whatever you call it–something that happens without needing control.
Of course, being somewhere that lovely doesn’t hurt, I imagine.
I enjoy seeing different interpretations of regions through illustrations. These are so lovely that you can tell her experience was such a positive one. Makes me want to go!
it’s official: i have sketchbook envy
Wow, I would love to have a book like that. I’ve always been drawn to books with colorful illustrations, handmade arts, sketches and handwriting. It makes the book more enjoyable to read and experience.
I’m right there with you.. wouldn’t mind that at all, either. I love artwork like this! Thank you for sharing, Brandi!
