Gratitude: Moving (again)

pumpkins

I’ve become singled minded: all I’ve been able to do in the last two days is hunt apartments in the DC/VA area online. The reality of it is that there are few good apartments and tons of people looking. So you’ll have to forgive me if I’m a bit distant over the next few weeks — trying to get everything organized for a big move is so daunting. This time, the distance isn’t nearly as far, but I’ll be bringing so much more with me.

I’m really glad the weekend is here. I’m driving down to DC tomorrow for some apartment showings, but I’ll get to spend all day in New York City with one of my best friends from San Diego. You can bet there will be brunches involved.

Moments of gratitude:

  • getting an awesome job in the DC area
  • my fat cat climbing on my lap (he hasn’t done that in years)
  • new fall television shows
  • scoring some great work dresses (two were from the Mad Men collection) at Banana Republic for a crazy good price (40% of the original prices)
  • some cooler, it-really-feels-like-autumn temperatures here
  • warm butternut squash soup followed with apple crisp
  • finishing up some projects and making a little extra cash
  • time spent with my family

A Reminder:

Elsewhere:

Do you have some fun plans for the weekend? Maybe something with a bit of an autumn flavor to it? Is it time to go pumpkin picking yet?

Have a glorious one, my dear friends!

    I’m so very excited for you. New city, new job, more lovely re-invention and evolving, which you are so excellent at.

    Darcy has family in the DC area and we went down there towards the beginning of the summer. We promised to come back for visits and because neither of us had been to the museums since we were a kid, spend sometime playing in the city. So I will let you know the next time we are planning a trip!

    Also, I <3 the Mad Men collection and it's so you! Good deal.

    Also, I'd be curious to hear what Fall TV you are watching and recommend. I just watched the first two episodes of Revenge, and it was excellent. It's my new favorite. If you haven't already checked it out, you should! I hope to have a review up on my blog soon.

    Cheers to you, moving girl! (Also… being in DC in an election year is going to be very interesting. Is there a possibility of seeing some political intrigue up here on NYAO?)

    Brandi, DC is a great place to live, so while moving is always full of headaches, hopefully once you’re here you’ll settle in nicely. Congrats on landing the great new job and welcome to the city. It will be lovely to have your creative can do spirit here in the National’s Capital.

    One more note, I love the image you used for this post! I love pumpkins. I love everything about October.

    I know other people feel this way in spring, but now is the time for reflection + renewal for me! Fall, for me, is when I make sh*t happen. I feel really inspired and energetic right now and I’m sending some of that lovely, ambitious energy towards you and your move!

    So many things to be thankful for! I am sorry for being so absent this week as you made your big announcement. I am SO very excited for you and I wish you the best of luck with the move {I hope you find an even better apartment than the one you had your hopes on!} I can certainly see you there and know you will do well.

    Tomorrow I am “running” in a 5k around our neighborhood. Being that it will be in the 40s and raining, and that I’m still getting over a cold, I’m sure I won’t actually run that much. But I have a race t-shirt and a bib and it has made me giddy excited. After that, a bit of house hunting myself {I am over the top excited about this new step in life!}

    That’s all – I wish you a wonderful weekend and will send many apartment finding vibes your way. I promise I’ll come back and be a good blog friend soon. :)

    Your weekend sounds fabulous! I can’t wait for you to find the perfect apartment to go along with your exciting new job!

    They have a Mad Men collection at Banana Republic? Cool!

    Speaking of Mad Men, what are the shows you’re watching this fall? I really liked the first few episodes of this season of Glee, and I’m loving Parenthood. Episode 2 of Fringe is tonight and I’m excited about that. It’s almost the end of another series of Doctor Who, too. I feel like I’ve been wrapped up in blankets on my couch an awful lot lately, watching shows and drinking tea {but I’ve had a horrible cold, so it’s okay, right?}

    This weekend we’re going to a preschool fundraiser- an autumn picnic and 1km walk. I’m bringing oatmeal raisin cookies, with lots of cinnamon in them. yum! And now that you’ve mentioned it, I’m going to have to make me some butternut squash soup…

    Happy Weekend, Brandi! Talk to you soon.
    xoxo

    Good luck to your move! Hope the new surroundings and new learnings will give you lots of inspiration. We can live other lives in other places and make it memorable. Have a happy moving! :)

  • goog luck Brandi, hope you find just what you’re looking for! I know how time consuming it all can be, I’m actually moving tomorrow morning. Currently have 10 mins to myself, before taking the dog to the kennel for the night and the youngest child off to a mates place. going slightly crazy, but a hot cup of tea and a quick surf to some of my fave blogs makes it all better : )

    good luck darl xxx
