We had our Secret Santa exchange at work this week and I thought I’d show you the little piece I embroidered for a colleague — she worked for NASA in the past and loved it.

I can’t believe Christmas is almost here. I’m in charge of the food at my parents’ house this year for the holiday. I probably should get on that, eh? Maybe tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m filling my weekend…

With Gratitude:

  • Having an honest chat with a good friend who is far away
  • Indulging in an exquisite meal during my office’s holiday lunch
  • Discovering music that made me want to sing on the streets
  • Planning holiday gifts for people
  • Realizing that love is enough

With Accomplishments:

  • Finish writing holiday cards
  • Create some culinary masterpieces
  • Work on my novella

With Wanderlust (for you):

What are you filling this weekend with?

How the time is just speeding by me lately! I discovered this week that after 9+ hours of sitting in front of a computer for work, the last thing I want to do at home is be on the computer. That makes responding to emails, reading blogs, and even watching DVDs on my computer hard! Especially when there’s so much to do around the apartment. I’m hosting my first mini-dinner party tonight and can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be baking and cooking again. Promise I’ll be a good blogger and take photos before we eat everything.

I’m also returning to some Friday lists — just some little things I wanted to share!

Moments of Gratitude

  • meeting a dear friend’s newest little girl (I can’t believe he has two already)
  • catching up with an old high school friend (still so strange that we’re so old)
  • an Indian dinner with the incredible ladies I work with (and continuing a love affair with paneer)
  • coming home to my cats (who adjusted to the new place quite well)
  • starting the last book in the Inheritance cycle (in case you forgot I’m a geek)
  • my mom’s rice krispy treats (she made another batch for me last weekend)
  • finally getting the right size containers for my kitchen (third time was the charm)

Weekend Goals

  • paint my bedroom
  • put up the kitchen shelves
  • work on a surprise for someone in San Diego
  • take photos of the new apartment and neighborhood to share next week

Places to Wander

Happy Weekend, friends! Let’s go conquer that world — or at least spoil ourselves with seasonal coffee/cocoa flavors, yes?

Let’s have a little party to celebrate my first full week of work. Say yes, won’t you? There’ll be some delicious baked goods — you know me. But a little warning: if you find me up on a tree branch, stretched out and asleep, let me be for a bit. I’m positively exhausted, and today is going to be a long one and thus a short post.

Moments of gratitude:

  • starting this new job
  • getting to work with some really incredible people
  • tres leches cake
  • discovering some wickedly good Mexican food
  • lounging in a gorgeous Victorian hotel
  • watching cheesy romantic movies
  • reading blog comments from so many incredible people (you all got me through this week)

I’ve got a full day of work and a 4+ hour drive back to NJ tonight so I’ll check in with you all later. In the meantime, get over to Naomi’s blog and enter her super awesome giveaway (you could win a copy of her book!).

Happy Friday, my friends! Please tell me you’ve got some Halloween-esque plans this weekend, yes?

I missed last week’s gratitude list, which is unfortunate because I’ve had so much to be grateful for lately:

  • a sweet one-bedroom apartment in the Capitol Hill area of DC, walking distance to all of the major museums and Eastern Market
  • an afternoon of shopping with my friend Jenny
  • randomly running into my friend Carly on the streets of Princeton
  • Gertrude Hawk Milk Chocolate Crispy bars (love these)
  • finding a moving company that I think is going to be great
  • eating Ethiopian food with a former professor who is now a friend
  • getting a massage (even if left me aching for days afterward)
  • catching up with my friend Sonjelle before she left for Ghana
  • grabbing some Pho for dinner with a high school friend
  • coming up with some wonderful ideas for my new job — which I start on Monday(!!!)
  • the autumn wind blowing
  • rice krispy treats, made by my mom (so made me feel like a kid again)
  • staying warm with cups of rooibos tea
  • being inspired by the film Miss Representation

What’s kept you busy this week? What are you most grateful for?

Also, the Circle Prints giveaway has closed and the winner is #13 — Kate. Congrats! Thank you to everyone who entered. Remember you have until October 31st to use the code NYAOblog and receive 30% off your order from Circle Prints!

And before we all run off to party our weekends away, I wanted to ask: do you prefer one or two posts a day? Lately I seem to have so much I want to share, though I suspect for the next two weeks, things will be a little light as I’ll be moving and adjusting to a new job. But going forward into the future, what do you prefer?

Happy weekend, my fabulous friends!

I’m a little exhausted right now. After two days of apartment hunting in DC, I found the perfect place. I was even the first application. It was nearly mine! And then they rented the place to someone else whose boss they knew. Heartbreak! I’m heading back down this weekend to search some more. But even though I didn’t get the place, this week held so many wonderful things:

  • the smell of autumn in the area
  • eating amazing Brooklyn pizza at Fornino
  • discovering incredible artists at Crafty Bastards in DC, at the Brooklyn Flea in NYC, at random places in NYC…
  • the sights of the High Line
  • cups of Pomegranate Oolong tea
  • the sun rising over a city skyline
  • spending time with my friend Amanda
  • lunch the inspiring Melissa (whose blog has a gorgeous new design)
  • dinner with the very sweet Kayla
  • amazing episodes of Radiolab

I’m off for the day, but you have a few hours left to enter my chalkboard message board giveaway — so go!

Have a wonderful autumn and apple-cider filled weekend! Oh, and if anyone has been making Houzz ideabooks, leave me a link — I’d love to check them out.

I’ve become singled minded: all I’ve been able to do in the last two days is hunt apartments in the DC/VA area online. The reality of it is that there are few good apartments and tons of people looking. So you’ll have to forgive me if I’m a bit distant over the next few weeks — trying to get everything organized for a big move is so daunting. This time, the distance isn’t nearly as far, but I’ll be bringing so much more with me.

I’m really glad the weekend is here. I’m driving down to DC tomorrow for some apartment showings, but I’ll get to spend all day in New York City with one of my best friends from San Diego. You can bet there will be brunches involved.

Moments of gratitude:

  • getting an awesome job in the DC area
  • my fat cat climbing on my lap (he hasn’t done that in years)
  • new fall television shows
  • scoring some great work dresses (two were from the Mad Men collection) at Banana Republic for a crazy good price (40% of the original prices)
  • some cooler, it-really-feels-like-autumn temperatures here
  • warm butternut squash soup followed with apple crisp
  • finishing up some projects and making a little extra cash
  • time spent with my family

A Reminder:

Elsewhere:

Do you have some fun plans for the weekend? Maybe something with a bit of an autumn flavor to it? Is it time to go pumpkin picking yet?

Have a glorious one, my dear friends!

The weather turned colder yesterday and, and for the first time in the last few weeks, it was painfully clear that autumn is approaching. Not that I don’t love autumn. I do. But I wouldn’t object to a few more days of heat.

A few of my moments of gratitude this week:

  • sunlight falling on skin
  • warm East Coast bagels with butter
  • nights spent curled up with good books
  • incredible people and conversation at a job interview
  • time spent with my friend Liz
  • watching Hercules, Liz’s hedgehog, turn into a ball (seriously so cute)
  • relaxing in an Upper East Side apartment on a rainy day
  • rooibos red fruits tea and scones
  • chatting with my friend Francesca
  • meet the lovely Natalie for the first time
  • grilled cheese sandwiches (something about them is so fall to me)

Places to wander this weekend:

I’m fantastically excited about this evening. Rachel from raenovate and I are heading out to Terrain for dinner and a book signing with Grace of Design*Sponge. I can’t wait to meet her and get my copy of her new book.

What are your weekend plans?

The possibilities are my favorite part of the summer. But have you noticed how quickly these summer days are passing?  I feel like someone has my clock on fast forward. Luckily, the weather right now is gorgeous and I’ve been taking advantage of it as much as possible. Today I’m heading into the city to see some wonderful friends and tomorrow I have a Girls’ Game Night to head to.

Moments of gratitude:

  • Finally beginning to figure out my relationship with food (see this post)
  • Spending time with family at my cousin’s wedding
  • Enjoying a summer thunderstorm
  • Walking barefoot on the patio after the rain stopped
  • Having conversations and with good friends
  • Attending a meeting of the Secret Science Club in Brooklyn
  • Pushing past some writer’s block
  • Finding and applying for an incredible job (fingers crossed)
  • Eating Greek Yogurt ice cream from Bent Spoon
  • Rediscovering a song that matched a drive at twilight perfectly
  • Listening to the sounds of the outdoors to put me to sleep
  • Watching Melanie win So You Think You Can Dance (I’m obsessed with this solo)

I kinda want to show you a photo of the pizza I had in Brooklyn this week, but I’ll save that for Pizzelles next week. I had just forgotten how good pizza in the NYC/Brooklyn area could be.

Any special plans for the weekend? Have a fantastic one!
